First and foremost I do wish to state that I am by no means a qualified psychologist or mental health expert, and what I post is not to be taken to the T! What I write are my own experiences and when I quote phrases, there is always a source! The contents on my blog, such as text, graphics, images, and other material are for informational purposes only. The content is not intended to be a substitute for professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of your mental health professional or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding your condition. Never disregard professional advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have read on my page!

I repeat it here again, but it is also on my disclaimer page. I thought it was important to reiterate it.

To have well-being you must have resilience

@elleash.blog HOW I LEARNED TO BECOME MORE RESILIENT IN TIMES OF CRISIS

Hey hey my lovely entrepreneurs,

How are you really doing today? When I post this, it is our third day of being free, here in France. Meaning that we are no longer under lockdown, and quite frankly it is truly freaking me out. I was in a beautiful bubble, that has now burst, and my anxiety has reached a new level of high …

However, I am doing all the things I can to stay calm and just get through the day.

If you are part of my IG community, firstly, thank you so much for your benevolence and kind comments – you guys are rockstars!

And secondly, you will know that I have been preparing a new theme to write about and that I am only giving you a very light version, via my IG posts, all throughout the month of May.

However, I feel like this topic is incredibly dense and so information packed, that I want to ensure that you can have the information that I have gathered on my blog.

Similar to my other themed posts on self-care, I will be dividing the posts, as it would make for a very long article.

I wish to be informative, but I don’t want you to be put off by all the text!!

I have decided to tackle a topic that was suggested by one of my followers, and I found it extremely pertinent, especially in today’s climate, in which people like me, who do suffer from anxiety, can find the overload of the actual situation, news, work, kids, etc …. just too much sometimes!

I also watched the film “My all American” on Netflix, which truly depicts what a resilient person is! Go check it out but have your tissues ready y’all.

So, in times of crisis, when our emotions can run haywire, there are some processing capabilities we can learn, and they may be dormant for ages, but when we feel submerged, by some unknown miracle they kick-in and we can become bad A fighters!

So the topic that I will be addressing all throughout this month (maybe not the whole month, we’ll see how I go!) is RESILIENCE.

What is resilience?

Resilience is typically defined as the capacity to recover from difficult life events. In layman words, it’s pretty much our ability to “bounce back” from what life can so generously throw at us!

It is not a yoyo, where you’re down one moment and up the next. It’s more like an endurance sport, such as mountain climbing, and without a map or compass.

Resilience is definitely not a process that you can whip out whenever you want. You may have capabilities to resist to certain things, but, like climbing a mountain, it takes time, strength, and help from people around you, and you’ll likely experience setbacks along the way. But eventually you reach the summit, you look back at how far you’ve come, then you ought to be proud.

According to Psychology Today,

PSYCHOLOGY TODAY

Resilience is that ineffable quality that allows some people to be knocked down by life and come back stronger than ever. Rather than letting failure overcome them and drain their resolve, they find a way to rise from the ashes.

So yeah, get knocked down by adversities in life, get back up, stronger and ready to kick A!

The process by which we do manage to dust ourselves off and move on is also called BOUNCING BACK.

What is bouncing back?

Everyone will experience difficulties in life. These difficulties will obviously vary in shape or form, and some people will even experience traumatic events that create an upheaval in their lives.

Resilience is the process by which people adapt to changes or crises, like death, tragedy, the loss of a job, financial problems, and more recently the Covid-19 virus.

However, it is not a character trait , but it can be learned by anyone, but learning it does require time and effort.

When faced with disappointment, defeat, and failure, pretty much the crap the universe decides to shun on us, “Bouncing back” is what we do instead of letting these things keep us down – we get back up, dust ourselves off and continue on with our lives.

According to the APA Help Center, bouncing back is,

APA HELP CENTER

the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress

Let me give you an example of the term bouncing back

Someone bounces back when they experience a traumatic car accident and sustain serious injuries, but stay positive and optimistic through a long physical therapy journey.

It can be psychologically painful, but thanks to a positive mindset, one can get through it – they bounce back.
