Tip N°1: plan, plan, plan!
If you have been following me and reading my blog posts, you know that I am a planner and that I love my lists!
By making plans and planning for the future, you are leaving very little space to feeling overwhelmed and unprepared when you’re up shit creek without a paddle!
Having a plan B or, even better, a plan C, not only are you going to find it easier to deal with the struggles you’re facing, it will also mean that you have already thought of ways to get out of particular difficult situations.
I wouldn’t go as far as to say that it is easy-peasy, but I can definitely attest to being much more mentally prepared for whatever life can throw at me, when I know that despite the outcome not always being the one I want, at least I have ways to get to that point in my life!
So, my number one tip to deal with life’s struggles is to plan!

Tip N°2: Choose to be grateful
When you are facing struggles in your life, the last thing you want to be doing is actually fall deeper into your hole of despair! Even though most times it’s the only thing we seem to be capable of doing.

I’m all for the bad mood vibes, because sometimes it just feels good, but if we are being honest, going down that path is not how you are going to be productively working on getting out of your funk and finding ways to deal with those shitty moments.
My second tip is therefore to try find the more positive aspects of your life.
It may seem like an unfeasible task, but by actually choosing to be grateful for what life has to offer and vice versa, your focus will shift to the more positive points of your life.
Facing struggles when you are in a positive mindset is much easier than trying to find solutions when your headspace isn’t in the right place!
Well-being and gratitude actually have a strong relationship and they work really well together!
Check this exercise from Berkely University that details how you can focus your positive attention by being grateful.
One way you can truly focus on the positive side of your life is to have a gratitude journal.
This journal will not only isolate your thoughts, it is a true guide in your well-being and mental wellness journey.

There really isn’t one “good” way to keep a gratitude journal, but the most important part of it is to stay specific and elaborate on a particular aspect, rather than write down a whole bunch of things and not really pin-point what or who you are grateful about and for.

Which ever way you decide to do it, what is important is that you are actually focusing your mind on what is good in your life!

Tip N°3: Acceptance is key
When the shit hits the fan and you are struggling to grapple with what the heck just happened, don’t fall into the trap of denying what just occurred.
Bad, shitty stuff happens and will happen to you, despite doing everything in your power to avoid those negatives areas.
Sometimes Murphy’s Law will keep coming at you and there isn’t much you can do about.
The best way to move forward and avoid wasting time, if you were to wallow in your “bad moment”, is to just accept it and find productive ways to move past it and find solutions to get you back on track.

Avoid indulging in the ease of thinking that life isn’t fair, that you don’t deserve what happened to you, etc. Whatever did happen to you, happened. The best way for it to not occur again is to grab the bull by its horns and bite the bullet, and find solutions for your struggles.
Do whatever it takes to move past the struggles in your life and as Annie would say ” the sun’ll come out tomorrow!”.
Remember that you’ve got this and you are the only person to heal your heavy heart, to move past whatever has happened to you and to find proactive solutions!

Tip N°4: it’s okay to ask for help
Just because whatever you are facing is hard AF, or could potentially be embarrassing, because you usually have your s*** together, don’t ever hesitate to ask for and accept the help of others.
Human beings are social beings, we like to interact and we find our selves stronger when we feel supported by our family and friends. So don’t be too proud to ask for help.

Your family and friends know you and whatever the struggles you are facing, they are there to help you through them and possible find solutions to move on. There is no judgement on their part, nor should you feel shame in asking for help, but furthermore, accepting to be helped.
Asking and accepting help when you are facing a shitty moment in your life, should never be deemed as weakness.
On the contrary – you are strong because you are asking and willing to accept to be helped.

Tip N°5: Just keep at it

When you are going through a tough time in your life, it may seem that there is no positive foreseeable outcome.
However, whatever hardships and struggles you are facing today, will pass. That feeling of helplessness and despair, never clings on and does dissipate through time.
You just have to keep at it. Keep believing that this moment in time will be a long-gone memory, albeit a not-so-happy one, but a mere memory nonetheless.
Whatever you are feeling and going through, the only way to really get past it, is to persevere and know that life isn’t all rosey, and filled with pink unicorns, but the struggles you are going through will not last and you will come out of it stronger and smarter than before!

Despite our best efforts, it is merely impossible to avoid bad moments in our life. It’s just unrealistic to think you can go through life without having moments of heartache or hardships!
